JEFF McNEAL IS A MASTER VOCAL IMPRESSIONIST
Having started doing celebrity voice impressions as a child, Jeff
McNeal cultivated his uncanny voice skills through young adulthood, first
appearing on national television as a contestant on The Gong Show, then
incorporating celebrity voice impressions into his major market radio
shows in California. "It was a lot easier than booking actual
celebrities most of the time", quips McNeal. After nearly two decades on air,
Jeff began losing interest in doing celebrity voice impressions and
eventually retired from radio altogether in 1997.
After a 12-year hiatus of performing no voice impressions publicly,
Jeff decided to see if he could apply his skills as an impressionist to
singers he admired, beginning in the summer of 2009. "If you think it's
easy for someone my age to sound like a British pop star in his early 20's
and in his prime, guess again." Each vocal impression takes a tremendous
amount of work to master for someone who has never been trained to sing,
but Jeff is having the time of his life. "After recording a
few dozen tribute covers, I discovered that other musicians
were taking notice and I started receiving collaboration requests from as far away as Japan". This
eventually led to the formation of a local cover/tribute band, "Mrs. Jones Revenge"
with Jeff as lead singer and front man. "I've got a great bunch of pro musicians
in this band and we're all excited about recreating these classic hits live and performing them on
stage to help keep the legacy of the original performers alive for as
long as we are able to."
